Self-Defense – How to Escape From Dangerous Environments Before It’s Too Late
Self-Defense is a very important step to take because it will give you a feeling of safety and control over your environment. Self-Defense is basically a set of certain techniques and methods which are efficient in fighting against the possible threats you’re going to face. Unlike martial arts, it’s not only a physical game, so basically the priority isn’t much on perfecting the perfect techniques but rather on reacting to an attacker with a swift set of techniques to either immobilize or break a hold. You should learn to protect yourself not because you want to be a bodybuilder or a soldier, but because you want to feel secured and protected at all times.
A common situation in which self-defense
is necessary is when you’re walking around at night with dim lighting or little illumination around. Don’t go out walking at night when it’s dark and dangerous because chances are good someone walking by will try to mug you or take your wallet/ purses. As much as possible, walk as slowly and cautiously as possible especially at places where you might run into people who aren’t paying attention to where they are walking.
Another very important thing to remember about self-defense
and situational awareness is your awareness of your surroundings. You have to be aware of anything that might cause you to feel threatened and that means paying close attention to where you are walking, what’s around you, and what is happening in the world around you. Being aware means being alert to danger, and this is especially true when there is no actual danger at all. Try to develop your peripheral vision by looking around and paying special attention to anything that could affect your safety while walking at night, like street signs, on footpaths, etc…
Something else to keep in mind
is that you should always try to be alert and prepared, even when you’re not in any risky situation. That’s why developing your awareness and situational awareness is so important if you want to be able to react to a dangerous situation quickly and effectively. This doesn’t mean that you have to become some kind of martial arts expert or anything, but it does mean that you need to be aware of what’s going on around you and what you can do to protect yourself. A lot of women overlook this fact, but a lot of times women will encounter an attacker and think that they’re in the clear when really they’re behind an attacker that has just seconds to get their next shot. Even if the confrontation is above what you would consider being a physical level, the attacker could still use that last bit of defense to take you down and cause you to be unconscious, which is why developing your awareness and skills for self-defense moves every woman should be doing is so important.
Finally, although there are quite a few self-defense moves
that you can use that will allow you to incapacitate your attacker long enough to get away from them, you’ll also want to make sure that you’re breaking free from them before that happens. There are several ways to do this, but one especially effective way is to turn and walk away. Although it sounds simple, it’s surprisingly difficult for many people to break free from someone that is struggling and throwing punches at them. Instead, you need to work towards breaking loose from them and taking advantage of the opportunity to run away. Make sure that you’re moving away from the person that’s chasing you and that you’re turning in a slow-motion that allows you to move in the direction of the runner.
If you can’t afford to go to the self-defense gym
or you don’t feel confident going out in potentially dangerous surroundings, there are other options for self-defense training that you can do. Self-defense training doesn’t have to involve some sort of competition with other women or anything like that. It can be as simple as a few minutes of training a few times per week to help keep yourself safe and in the position to defend yourself when the time comes.
