Renewable green energy is the energy derived from natural resources which are renewed on a continuous basis, such as wind, water, sun, and tides, carbon neutral (the environment does not absorb any CO2 emissions) sources such as coal, oil, gas, or nuclear waste, or biodegradable materials like algae or bioethanol. The process of obtaining renewable green energy is called renewable energy, and it has been around for some time. However, the real growth in popularity of renewable energy lies in its environmental benefits which, when more people catch on, will lead to widespread use of green energy on a global scale.
Renewable green energy can be used to generate electricity, heat, hot water, or be used directly. There are two types of renewable energy: active (manually operated) and passive (with no moving parts). There are many kinds of natural resources which are perfect for the generation of green energy: sunlight, wind, and water.
Solar energy is the source of sunlight
Solar panels or solar cells are used to capture the sunlight and convert it into usable green energy. The technology to harness this power has been around for decades, but only recently have companies started mass-producing large quantities of solar cells to be used in residential homes, cars, and other forms of commercial production. Wind power occurs naturally during high winds. Windmills can be used to extract energy from the wind. Several companies in California, including Google, have experimental windmills outside their offices.

Green energy and green power have many distinct advantages over conventional forms of energy, but they also have some fairly significant disadvantages, too. One of the biggest disadvantages is that the cost of green power is much higher than most forms of fossil fuels, (and thus, the cost of green power is likely to become higher over time). Also, a major environmental problem – global warming – was made worse by the use of fossil fuels. However, there are some substantial environmental and economic benefits.

First of all, using sustainable forms of energy can help to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Secondly, using sustainable forms of energy reduces greenhouse gas emissions, because emissions from fossil fuels do not go directly into the atmosphere. Green energy sources indirectly reduce the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere, because they trap heat and cool air so that less carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere when the air is heated up by a hot summer day, or cooled by a cold winter day.
Another advantage is that these types of sources tend to be readily available. Fossil fuels, like coal and oil, are generally not replenishable. In most places where they are used, it takes millions of years for the earth to break down the supply that they have mined. Green energy comes from readily available, non-depleting, renewable sources.
